This small wooden strategy board game is a handcrafted piece of history. The board and pieces are highly portable; the pawns are contained within the board itself for easy storage and transport. Hare & Hounds is believed to have been created initially during Europe's medieval period, and part of a family of games from that period with similar theme and gameplay. It became truly popular with the French military during the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-1871; this gave rise to its alternative title of the "French Military Game". This handcrafted wooden game can be highly challenging despite it's small size, with underlying diverse mathematical strategies. In 1963, mathematician Martin Gardner wrote in a Scientific American article that the game "combines extreme simplicity with extraordinary strategic subtlety". This heirloom-quality game is built to be enjoyed and admired for generations. It is a piece of functional art that will make a unique and cherished addition to any board gamer's collection, and is an excellent way to spend quality time with a friend or family member.

• OBJECT OF THE GAME: Hare & Hounds is a 2-player abstract strategy game. The three hounds attempt to surround and immobilize the hare, trapping it so it can no longer move. The hare attempts to pass the hounds, and/or reach the other end of the board. A rules pamphlet is included with the game.
