Ludus Duodecim Scriptorum, also known as Duodecim Scripta, or XII Scripta, is a traditional board game of Roman origin. Ancient Rome was known for its advancements in architecture, government, and art, to name a few; they also adopted or created many great games to pass the time. Completely handcrafted, this modern interpretation of the ancient Roman game is created from hardwood, either cherry or maple, and features wood burned historically-inspired artwork to convey popular themes from Roman society. A fast paced racing game involving opponent player captures and dice rolls to dictate movement, this game will bring many hours of enjoyment to the avid traditional board gamer as well as enthusiasts of Roman history. A functional piece of art that will stand the test of time as surely as the ancient game has endured over the centuries, and much more portable in this version, as opposed to the stone tables used during the days of the Empire!

• OBJECT OF THE GAME: Ludus is a 2-player racing game. Each player begins with their fifteen pieces off the board. Using dice for movement, the players have to enter their pieces onto the board, race them around the three rows, and bear them off at the end of the track. Enemy pieces can be hit, or knocked off the board and forced to restart their race, during the course of the game. The first player to move all their playing pieces off the board wins. A rules pamphlet is included with the game.

PLEASE NOTE: All my items are crafted by me, in my home studio and workshop. I am a one-man show, with no ‘production partners’ to help mass-produce any item (though I will source pawns, etc. from quality reputable dealers). Be assured that when you buy an item from me, you are getting a distinctive creation from the original maker. Given the inherent nature of the handcrafted work, time frames for more complex creations, whether the complexity is the art, the build, or a combination of both, can be extensive. Please be patient; I communicate and update customers regularly with the status of their unique creation(s).
